RECIPE DESCRIPTION:

Macher Jhol as the Bengalis call it, the recipe shown in Katla curry is cooked in mustard oil and uses fried fish in curry. A typical Bengali recipe, it is liked by all.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE FISH

Catla½ kg
Onion Paste2 medium sized
Onion2 small sized chopped
Ginger garlic paste1½ tbsp
Tomato paste1 tsp
Turmeric powder2 tsp
Curd2 tsp
Red Chilli powder1 tsp
Corriander1 tsp
Bay leaves2 Medium sized
Garam Masala2 tsp
Clove2
Cardamom2
Cinnamon Stick1 small
Salt & sugarto taste
Mustard OilAs needed
Water½ cup

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Defrost the fish as per instruction and wash.
  • Sprinkle some turmeric powder & salt on the fish pieces
  • Now take another pan & heat some oil
  • Add bay leaves,Cinnamon stick,Cardamom and cloves to it and let them release their aroma
  • Add onion paste ginger garlic and all other spices and cook until oil seperates
  • Add sugar & salt as reqd
  • Beat the curd with little salt and sugar for another 5-6 mins and then add it to the gravy
  • Now add some warm water and add the fried fish pieces and cover it with a lid on a low flame for-7-8 mins
  • At last heat some ghee in another pan.Add garam masala and put it into the gravy
  • Serve with plain rice

TIP: 

Good with rice
